The Deer Hill Case Study house rests on a gently slopping lot and is oriented for southern solar access with views of the wooded preserve to the east. A 1,400 sf first floor offers a south facing living room with shed roof that opens up the living room with large glass sliders and clerestory windows. The 1,000 sf second floor hosts the Master Suite and two bedrooms and study.

The Deer Hill Case Study home is characterized by bold masonry walls that contrast against stepping roof planes floating above horizontal transom windows.

Entry to the home is articulated by a sequence of steel columns flanked by a masonry wall that leads to the front door. The solid masonry base offers privacy from the street for the living and dining rooms. Ascent of the stair is day-lit by a vertical band of windows that gesture to the street like a lantern at night.
